Highlight

The Queen Elizabeth National Park is situated at the base of the Ruwenzori Mountains in Uganda and covers 2090 sq km. Affectionately known as the QEII, the Queen Elizabeth National Park offers an East African game park with crater-dotted hills and open grassland. It supports an abundance of wildlife, including elephant, lion, leopard and the unique Ugandan antelope, the kob.

The park’s dominant feature is the 32km long Kazinga Channel that links Lake Edward to Lake George. The Kazinga Channel is said to contain the world’s largest concentration of hippos and numerous Nile crocodiles – all easily viewed from a boat cruise.

The park is home to more than a quarter of Africa’s total birdlife. With more than 560 species of bird within its borders, the park is a bird watcher’s paradise!

Queen Elizabeth Safari offers the opportunity to see the game in unusual landscapes and the park is one of East Africa’s best-kept secrets. The animals here aren’t being hounded by dime-a-dozen minibusses.

During this trip, tour activities at Queen Elizabeth National Park include;- Boat cruises at Kazinga channel, game drives, interaction with local people, visit Kyambura wildlife reserve, see traditional salt works and the tree climbing lions in the Ishasha segment.

Itinerary

  • Early morning after breakfast, start your trip to Queen Elizabeth National Park (1978sq.km) in western Uganda. Have a break at the Uganda Equator for the photoshoot. As you get into the park you will be able to see the escapements of Rwenzori Mountain Crater Lakes, rift valley and spot some animals on the roadside. Have an evening game drive in the park and see the tree-climbing lions, elephants, buffaloes, Kobs, bushbucks, waterbucks, warthogs, and leopard. Then take dinner at Mweya Safari Lodge or Institute of Ecology where you will have a good outlook of Kazinga channel and Lake Edward peninsular.

  • Have a cup of African tea in the morning and take chimp safari to Kyanbura Gorge and you will stumble upon with buffaloes, water bucks, warthogs, lions, Uganda kobs and other animals plus a collection of birds.
